“Perception” studies the active, subjective nature of observation. Visual distortion is created through screens, curtains, foliage, mirrors, motion, time, physical barriers, and shadows. These distortions visually represent the valley of interpretation that exists between subject and object. Challenging the tradition of photography as a static art dominated and defined by the male gaze, this photo essay explores women as active subjects both in front of and behind the camera.
